GTEC directs CAGD not to pay August 2023 salary and allowances to Colleges of Education teachers

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has directed the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) not to pay August 2023 salary and allowances to Colleges of Education teachers across the 46 Public Colleges of Education in Ghana.
In a letter signed by Saaka Sayuti, the Director of Administration at GTEC to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) dated 21st August, 2023, staff of the Colleges of Education were restrained from receiving salary and allowances for the month of August, 2023.
This directive, according to the information was sanctioned by the Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
The Colleges of Education Teachers are members of Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) who embarked on strike due to government’s inability to address their conditions of service among other outstanding issues.
The letter to CAGD, Saaka Sayuti said “we write at the instance of the Honourable Minister of Education, rcquesting you NOT to pay monthly salary and allowances for the month of August, 2023 to the Teaching Staff of alI 46 Colleges of Education (CETAG).
However, any arrears before August 2023 should be validated and paid.
