Harmony in Farewell: Kpone Katamansu Teachers Celebrate Retirees with Generosity

In a heartening display of unity and gratitude, educators in the Kpone Katamansu Municipality of the Greater Accra Region recently commemorated the retirement of eleven dedicated colleagues under the visionary leadership of their Municipal Education Director, Mr. Harry Evans Arthur.

This touching event not only marked the conclusion of illustrious careers but also underscored the Directorate’s commitment to supporting its retiring members.

Unified in their determination to ensure that retirees receive financial assistance as they bid farewell to their careers, the teachers acknowledged the potential insufficiency of relying solely on retirement benefits from the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SNNIT).

To bridge this gap, they chose to contribute financially to support their retiring colleagues.

This impactful initiative, known as the Director’s Special Initiative (DSI), was introduced by Mr. Arthur and is currently overseen by the Municipal Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS).

Its objective is to provide financial aid to teachers upon retirement, ensuring a comfortable life after years of devoted service.

The send-off ceremony for 2023 unfolded on December 20 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ashiaman-Lebanon. Distinguished dignitaries, including the Municipal Director of Education for Kpone Katamansu Municipality, officers from the Education Office, COHBS executives, representatives from the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the Municipal Teachers’ Welfare Association (MTWA), and the Municipal Parents’ Association (MPA), were in attendance. Reverend Father George Jojo Monoth (SVD) graced the occasion, offering his blessings.

During the ceremony, eleven retired teachers were celebrated and bid farewell in a dignified manner. To the surprise of all, each retiree received a generous sum of Seven Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS 7,000.00).

This financial support from their fellow teachers resonated deeply with the retirees, showcasing the unity and solidarity within the teaching community.

The Municipal Director of Education expressed sincere gratitude to everyone who supported his vision of bringing joy to retiring teachers.

He stressed the importance of demonstrating love and support while alive, aligning with the expectations of Christ. The Director highlighted that this initiative has already gained traction in other sister municipalities, expressing hope for its nationwide adoption.

The send-off ceremony coincided with the Directorate’s carol service, infusing the event with a joyful and festive spirit.

Reverend Father George Jojo Monoth (SVD) underscored the significance of expressing love and commended the teachers for their substantial support of the DSI. The Municipal Choir contributed to the festive atmosphere with their melodious songs.

The Kpone Katamansu Municipal Education Directorate’s commitment to acknowledging its educators’ contributions is truly commendable.
