The Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to education by awarding 100 new scholarships to students from Podoe and Volo in his constituency. This gesture, announced during the Podoe Annual Easter Fundraising Durbar and Volo Tugbedzo Festival, brings the total number of scholarship beneficiaries in the constituency for 2025 to an impressive 400 students.

The Foreign Affairs Minister emphasized that education remains a cornerstone of his development agenda for North Tongu. The scholarships, he said, are aimed at reducing financial barriers to education and empowering the youth to pursue their academic dreams.

“We cannot build a prosperous society without investing in the education of our young people,” Hon. Ablakwa stated. “These 100 scholarships are part of a broader commitment to human capital development, and I will continue to support more students across the constituency.”

Tertiary institution in North Tongu

In line with the government’s plan to site a tertiary institution in North Tongu, the MP reiterated his efforts in advocating for its swift implementation, noting that such an institution would create vast opportunities for students and contribute to local development.

Construction of Juapong–Podoe–Abutia–Ho

On the infrastructural front, Hon. Ablakwa made a bold commitment to deliver the long-awaited Juapong–Podoe–Abutia–Ho road as his signature project before the end of his fourth term. He revealed that engagements with President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Roads and Highways have yielded assurances, and work is expected to commence soon.

Upgrade the Volo Community Day Senior High School to boarding status

As part of his commitment to expanding educational infrastructure in the district, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa reassured the chiefs and people of Volo of plans to upgrade the Volo Community Day Senior High School to boarding status.

He explained that the move will ease the burden on students who currently travel long distances to access secondary education while also boosting enrollment and academic performance.

In addition, the MP announced the construction of a staff bungalow to provide decent accommodation for teachers and administrative staff—an initiative aimed at improving teacher retention and motivation in the school.

He emphasized that these interventions are part of a broader effort to ensure equitable and accessible quality education for all constituents.

Installation of telecommunication panels

Additionally, the MP addressed the issue of poor mobile network connectivity in several parts of the constituency. He disclosed that he has successfully lobbied for 20 telecommunication panels, which will soon be installed in selected areas to improve communication access and digital inclusion.

Hon. Ablakwa also praised the newly appointed District Chief Executive, Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, calling on constituents to give her their full support as she undertakes her mandate. “Together, we can accelerate the pace of development and make North Tongu a model district,” he said.

He concluded by reaffirming his belief that North Tongu will receive its fair share of development under the next John Mahama administration, guided by the NDC’s Reset Agenda.

The events were attended by constituency and branch executives, traditional leaders, youth groups, and a cross-section of residents who welcomed the MP’s inspiring message of hope and progress.
