How to Apply for Colleges of Education

The Ministry of Education in Ghana has announced the opening of applications for admission to the new four-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree program in the forty-six (46) public colleges of education for the academic year.

The program aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become effective teachers and contribute to the development of the country. This article provides an overview of the online application procedure and important considerations for prospective applicants to the program.

How to Apply for Colleges of Education

Online Application Procedure:

1. Make a payment of Two Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHC2200.00) into the Colleges of Education-Ghana account at any branch of the following banks nationwide: Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited and GCB.
2. Alternatively, payment can be made through mobile money wallet: Tigo Cash, Vodafone cash, Airtel Money, and MTN Mobile Money by dialing short code *9248# from all networks.
3. Upon payment, applicants will receive a Personal Identification Number (PIN), an admission application serial number, and the admission website address – coeportal.edu.gh.
4. Using the PIN, visit the admission website and follow the specific guidelines to fill the online application form.
5. Applicants should select three colleges of their choice for their program and an accompanying Ghanaian language.

Important Considerations:

1. Applicants are advised to read and understand all related instructions before completing the application form.
2. Application forms not properly completed will not be processed.
3. After completing the online application form, applicants should print a copy and send it with one passport photograph and a copy/copies of their results slip(s) (where available) by EMS priority envelope obtainable from Ghana Post nationwide and addressed to the principal of the applicant’s first college of choice.
4. Applicants will be notified of the receipt of their applications by SMS (text message) and should provide correct and reliable cell phone numbers when completing the form online.
5. Applicants will also receive admission offer notifications by SMS. Those who do not receive such notifications may understand it to mean that their applications were not successful.
6. The colleges will cross-check applicants’ results from the West African Examinations Council as part of the admission process. Applicants found to have submitted fake or falsified documents will face legal consequences.

Easy Steps for Applying on the Colleges of Education Portal:

1. Search for the website: coeportal.edu.gh.
2. Click ‘Login’ to start applying.
3. Fill the application form and attach a passport picture in JPG or JPEG format that does not exceed 40KB in size.
4. Click ‘Preview’ to edit the application, save it for later or submit it.
5. After clicking ‘Submit and Print Confirmation,’ click ‘Print Form’ to print the confirmation page.
6. Keep the printed confirmation page safe. You will require your application form number to check your admission status and print your admission letter.
7. Print two copies of the confirmation page, attach results slip(s) and any other important documents, and send them by post to the college of education applied to. Failure to do so means the application won’t be processed.
8. Quote your application reference/form number on your envelope.

Each of the forty-six public colleges of education is affiliated with a public university, and certificates will be awarded to students who successfully complete their course of study by the affiliate university.
