Since President Nana Akufo Addo was sworn into office in January 2017, some key members of the opposition National Democratic Congress alleged that Lawyer Gabby Otchere-Darko was invisibly controlling affairs of the state ( defacto Prime Minister ) and that he was chairing cabinet Meetings.
However, the leading member of the New Patriotic Party and a cousin to President Nana Akufo Addo, Gabby Otchere-Darko has dispelled the rumours that he is a defacto Prime Minister for the republic of Ghana.
Speaking in an interview on Citi Tv, lawyer Gabby Otchery stated that, the allegations that he is a defacto Prime Minister and that he was chairing cabinet meetings are false and that he has never stepped foot in the room where cabinet meetings are held before.
He explained that, many people realized that he merited to be given an appointment into Government when President Nana Akufo Addo became President because of the work he had done but since that did not happen, they decided to throw out such allegations that he is a defacto Prime Minister controlling the affairs of the state.
He said ”
I’ve even not stepped foot in the cabinet room before, I don’t get involved with the ins and outs of Government, policy and all that. But of course I as you know and as you rightly pointed out, I’ve been in the Governance baseball for a long time.
Before the NPP won Election, I said that I was not interested in Political Office and after they won in 2016, there were speculations as to which position I was going to be given….and eventually when I was not given any position, then they had to create one for me because they expect that I will be appointed into Government.
