Honourable Kobena Mensah Woyome, the Member of Parliament for South Tongu says he has paid school fees for over 5,000 students in his beloved Constituency.
According to Mr. Woyome, he settled fees for the students who approached and sought for financial assistance from him since 2009 till date as an MP.
He disclosed that, some of the payments cover admission fees into Senior High Schools and tertiary institutions, academic and semester fees for tertiary students, termly fees for Pre-tertiary students among others.
Speaking at his first monthly engagement with South Tongu Constituents via Sela Radio 97.1Mhz which was live on other platforms on Sunday, 10th April, 2022, the Member of Parliament explained that, he made some of the payments through Momo, cash at hand and cheques.
According to the MP, some of the payments come from him personally while the rest were paid using the MP’s Common Fund.
He clarified that, he has been silent on some of the supports he has been offering to his constituents because, he is someone who wouldn’t like to assist people financially and be announcing publicly the names of the beneficiaries.
But, it has become very necessary for him to highlight and give account on some of the supports to his constituents because, some people are taking advantage of that to score mischievous political points against him for doing nothing.
When asked to mention names of some beneficiaries, he declined because, he did that ones in the past and some parents and guardians felt worried and complained bitterly for disclosing the financial assistance extended to their wards.
He argued that, the beneficiaries of his financial assistance know themselves and have been giving positive remarks always.
He added that, anyone who doubts the payment and wants facts can go to the South Tongu District Assembly for some of the evidences available.
Mr. Woyome reiterated that, his doors are still opened to everyone especially his beloved constituents.
