The Founder and CEO of Tobinco Group of Companies, Samuel Amo Tobbin has disclosed that he used GH¢1.00 as the capital to start his pharmaceutical business, Tobinco Group of Companies.

Recounting the start of his successful business, he said he got the idea of selling medicine (pharmaceutical business) through a Muslim neighbor/friend named Alhaji Baba. Through dedication to success, he put in maximum efforts for gains (investment) and has now become a household name in Ghana and beyond.

“Selling medicine was introduced to me by a Muslim called Alhaji Baba. In those days, he lived behind our house, and there was no street connecting to his house for cars to pass, so my sibling and I used to assist him in carrying his stuff home anytime he returned from town. That is how we became friends.

Disclosing how he managed to gather the capital, GH¢1.00 then, he said he sold P.K. and other things ( names not mentioned) to earn enough to embark on establishing his generational source of income business.

“Shortly after I completed basic school, I had made GH¢1 from selling P.K. and other things. Note, I am not talking about GH¢1 in today’s value; I am talking about it as in 1984,” Tobbin said.

After gathering the capital, Tobin said he informed his friend, Alhaji Baba, about the amount of money he saved (GH¢1.00) and further went on to tell him about the impossibility of continuing his education (Secondary School). Baba then helped him to start the medicine business fully.

“So, I informed Alhaji Baba that I had made one cedi from my sales and was not sure I could continue with secondary education. I asked him what I could do with my one cedi. He then bought some medicines for me to sell, and that is how it all started,” Tobbin disclosed in the interview.
