In a recently held vetting proceeding in the Ashanti Region, Chairman Wontumi of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) made headlines with his controversial remarks directed at Otumfuo Asantehene, the revered traditional leader of the Ashanti Kingdom.
The National Organizer of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, also known as Nana B, was present during the incident.
During the event, Chairman Wontumi boldly declared, “I have built my own kingdom, I have my own police and military, and I will speak my mind to Otumfuo if I disagree on an issue with him. He’s Nobody.”
Chairman Wontumi’s remarks have drawn strong reactions from various quarters, with many expressing their disappointment and calling for a retraction and apology.
The NPP, as a political party, has also faced backlash for the incident, with critics arguing that such remarks undermine the party’s commitment to respect for traditional authorities.
In response to the incident, Otumfuo Asantehene has not issued an official statement.
However, it is expected that the traditional leader will address the matter privately and seek a resolution that upholds the dignity and harmony of the Ashanti Kingdom.
