The Vice President of the Ghana His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reacted to some allegations leveled against him about unknown woman called “Ramatu” as his wife.
On 7th January, 2021, during the swearing in ceremony of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has “mistakenly” mentioned a certain “Ramatu” instead of Samira Bawumia while introducing the wife of the Vice President. Though he immediately retracted and apologized for a wrong name he was given, the public has attributed “Ramatu” to Dr. Bawumia as his wife.
Similar incident occured during the President’s 2021 State Of The Nation Address where the Majority MP were seen shouting in camera “We want Ramatu, We want Ramatu….” at the time the Speaker was about introducing Samira Bawumia as spouse of the Vice President.
The Vice President in a statement issued by his spokespersons Gideon Boako, Ph.D has directed the public to Ignore the fabricated Ramatu story about him. According to him, he has only one wife called Samira Bawumia.
“The attention of the office of the Vice-President has been drawn to stories and pictures circulating on a woman supposedly named “Ramatu” who is being claimed as a wife of the Vice-President.”
“The office of the Vice-President wishes to inform the general public that the Vice-President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has never met or seen this purported Ramatu let alone take her as a wife. She is a figment of the imagination of people trying hard to tarnish the image of the Vice-President for their own purposes.”
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Vice- President has only one wife, his dear Samira Bawumia and they have been married for 17 years even though his religion permits him to marry up to four wives.”
“We ask the public to ignore the propaganda and deliberate falsehood.”
