The former Deputy Energy Minister and the Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu Constituency, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor throws jabs at the current Energy Minister Hon. John Peter Amewu over comments he made at the minister’s press briefing on Tuesday, 19th May, 2020 regarding the huge debts owed by the former president John Dramani Mahama’s led government prior to 2017 when the NPP took over.

According to Mr. Peter Amewu, the NDC government till 2016 owed huge sums of monies to supplies of power to the country including ECG which the New Patriotic Party (NPP) under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has paid to the fullest and even have a credit balance up to an amount of GHC500M which no government has ever done.

Responding to the assertions made by the energy minister, Mr. Jinapor said the NPP is always known for milking from where they have not invested even a dime in their regime or governance.

Mr. Jinapor, who presented contrary data to what the current energy minister said, says that the NDC is responsible for the establishment of the Energy Sector Levies Act popularly known as ESLA which has generated up to a total of GHC12 billion over the years. A levy that is instituted purposely for the payments of energy sector debts and as such it is bad for the minister to deliver such a flawed mathematical assertions.

In the data presented, honourable Jinapor stated that the ESLA had become a monumental fund which the NPP has not just maintained but has also increased the levies drastically over their 3 years of taking over from the NDC yet they while in opposition refer to it as a nuisance tax
