The Ghana Education Service has reviewed its punishment meted out to some fourteen (14) Final Year Senior High School students from four different schools in the ongoing 2020 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Speaking to Joy News monitored by Coverghana.com.gh, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service Madam Cassandra Twum Ampofo said, the Management of GES following President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s directive, had a joint meeting with the Minister of Education Hon. Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh today, Momfay, 10th August, 2020 to reconsider the dismissal of the students.
According to Madam Cassandra Twum Ampofo, the fourteen dismissed students will be allowed to write the rest of their final year WASSCE papers under strict supervision by the security personnel and under the control of their parents or guardians.
Below are list of students who were recalled by GES to continue the ongoing WASSCE.
1. Nicholas Cobbinah` – Sekondi College

3. John Kwofie – Sekondi College
4. Simon Ameyibor (Senior Prefect) – Tweneboah Koduah SHS
5. Thomas Anokye – Tweneboah Koduah SHS
6. Juliet Amoakowaa – Tweneboah Kpoduah SHS
7. Emmanuel Ashiangmor – Battor SHS
8. Peter Sissi – Battor SHS
9. Ameka Nyamiitse – Battor SHS
10. Shadrack Daitey – Battor SHS
11. Alfred Attiso – Battor SHS
12. Solomon Brako – Juaben SHS
13. Albert Agyekum – Juaben SHS
14. Robert Inkoom – Juaben SHS
Akufo-Addo directs Education Minister to engage GES on WASSCE ban for 14 dismissed students
In a statement issued by GES confirming the information indicates that, the students are permitted to write their examination in their respective schools.
GES Further outlined that, the students are dismissed and must leave the various school compound immediately. The heads of the affected schools were also directed to allow the students involved to come to the school each day to write any paper they are due.
In addition, the affected students were directed to leave the school premises each day immediately after the paper with their guardian.

BACKGROUND
On Friday, 7th August 2020, the Ghana Education Service has dismissed fourteen Final Year SHS students following reports of misconducts, an act of indiscipline and vandalism of school property after their Integrated Science Examination Paper on Monday, 3rd August, 2020.
The Service in a press statement signed by its Director-General Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa has expelled fourteen WASSCE candidates from schools to serve as deterrent for others.

But, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday, 9th August, 2020 has directed the Sector Minister Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh to immediately engage the Ghana Education Service to reconsider the punishments to the students. The President is his statement said, the dismissal alone is enough punishment, therefore the students must not be prevented from writing the ongoing WASSCE.
