Kofi Asare questions reducing rate of school placement as BECE pass rate increases

The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch Mr. Kofi Asare has questioned the reducing rate of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) as BECE percentage pass rate of students increases according to available date.
The Ministry of Education has earlier announced the 2021/2022 Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) into Senior High Schools (SHS)/ Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institutes, which goes live on Saturday, 26th March 2022.

According to the Ministry’s statement, out of the total number of 571,892 registered candidates, 555,353 candidates qualified to be placed. A total of 367,811 candidates have automatically been placed in one of their choices.
The Ministry of Education under the auspices of Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has explained that, this means a total of 187,542 of qualified candidates will have to do SELF-PLACEMENT to select from available schools since they could not be matched with any of their choices.

In responding to the Ministry’s statement, the Executive Director of Africa Education Watch Mr. Kofi Asare said, it appears the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) pass rate for 2021 was higher than the previous years, as 97% of candidates qualified for placement compared to 92.7% in 2020.
However, the percentage placed by the computer has been reducing over the years from 74 .1% in 2019 to 66.2% in 2021.

This, according to Kofi Asare has revealed an inverse relationship between the percentage of students who qualify for placement and the percentage automatically placed by the computer.
He questioned the reducing placement system as compared to the increasing percentage pass because as more students qualify, less are able to gain automatic placement to schools of their choice. Why?
