The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has put out a detailed statistics for the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school Candidates.
The statistics as released by WEAC includes total number of Candidates who sat for the examination, total number of male and female Candidates, total number of schools, number of examination centres among many.

TOTAL CANDIDATES
According to the West African Examination Council, a total of 531,707 Candidates sat for the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
MALE AND FEMALE CANDIDATES
In providing a breakdown of the figure, the Council indicated that, 269,408 males and 262,299 females sat for the examination. Meanwhile, WAEC said, the figure is 2.78% higher than the 2019 Candidates of 517,332.
TOTAL SCHOOLS
The 531,707 Candidates who sat for the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) were from a total of 17,436

EXAMINATION CENTRES
A total of 2,012 examination centres were created to administer the 2020 BECE.
ABSENTEES
The statistics shows that, 1.59% of Candidates who initially registered for the examination were absent.
CANCELLATION OF SUBJECT RESULTS
WAEC has cancelled Subject Results of 417 candidates for bringing foreign materials into the examination hall and engaging in collusion.

CANCELLATION OF ENTIRE RESULTS
WAEC has also cancelled Entire Results of 44 candidates for bringing mobile phones into the examination hall.
SUBJECT RESULTS WITHHELD
The Council has also withheld a total of 977 Candidates’ Subject Results pending the conclusion of investigation into various cases of alleged examination malpractice.

WAEC noted that, the withheld results of Candidates may be cancelled or released based on the outcome of investigations.
