Kylian Mbappe, the 25-year-old France captain, has informed Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) of his intention to leave the club when his contract expires in June. Although he has yet to sign a contract with Real Madrid, the announcement of the deal is expected after the conclusion of this season’s Champions League, as the two clubs cannot meet in the competition.

As PSG’s all-time leading goalscorer with 244 goals, Mbappe expressed his desire to have his future secured before March. On February 13, he held a meeting with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, where he communicated his decision to join Real Madrid.

Following reports of his departure, Mbappe was left out of the starting lineup for Saturday’s match against Nantes. However, he came off the bench to score a penalty, contributing to PSG’s 14-point lead at the top of Ligue 1.

The anticipated agreement between Mbappe and Real Madrid is set to be a five-year deal, with the player earning €15 million (£12.8 million) per season. Additionally, Mbappe is expected to receive a €150 million (£128 million) signing-on bonus spread over five years and retain a percentage of his image rights.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has already considered how to incorporate Mbappe into the team’s formation. This includes utilizing England midfielder Jude Bellingham in a deeper role, Brazilian Vinicius Jr on the left flank, and positioning Mbappe on the left of the center. If Croatia midfielder Luka Modric departs in the summer, Mbappe could inherit the coveted number 10 shirt he currently wears for the French national team.

Mbappe was initially expected to leave PSG on a free transfer at the end of the 2021-22 season. However, he signed a two-year contract extension with an option for a further year.

Nevertheless, after indicating his unwillingness to agree to the additional year, he was excluded from PSG’s pre-season tour to Japan in July. Although he had received a world-record £259 million offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, Mbappe declined to engage in discussions with their representatives.
