Let’s ensure the poor are not exposed to high cost of burden – Kofi Asare

The Executive Director of the Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare has indicated that, the free SHS policy must not be used to expose the poorest for whom the policy was original meant are not exposed to higher cost burden.

Kofi Asare made this known in a Facebook post, where he indicated that, that are currently about 70 remaining schools on the CSSPS self placement portal, with majority being TVET and STEM Schools located in deprived areas.

His concern is coming at the back of complains made by parents of wards (BECE Candidates) who couldn’t get any of the schools they selected during the BECE school selection process and had to resort to self placement.

He further indicated that, there are no schools in the Central, Western North, Eastern and Greater Accra Regions. An indication that, students from these Regions may have to settle for schools far from them.

He later made it known that, the decision to settle for schools far from them could lead to incurring a cost as much as GH¢3,000.00 on private hostel accommodation and feeding, when the free SHS fees paid by government is about GH¢2,000.00
