Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey
Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey, an educationist and former District Director of Education has retired from the Ghana Education Service (GES) with top achievements.
The hardworking, selfless, humble and proactive Director of Education had her mandatory retirement on 20th February, 2022 after serving diligently without any blemish. Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey left remarkable memories and indelible marks in the minds of many as she retires from the Service.
Her exit was a mind blowing to many teachers, students, opinion leaders and students groups, especially the National Union of Tongu Students and Associates (NUTSA) that worked with her when she was acting District Director of North Tongu and substantive Director for South Tongu District.
Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey, during her time as Director was acknowledged by the National Secretariat of National Union of Tongu Students and Associates (NUTSA) for promoting quality delivery of education in the Districts.
The South Tongu District was also honoured the best performing District in Tongu during her regime by Agboni Nicholas Kelvin NUTSA-led administration, the then National President of NUTSA.
Among others, the following are considered as her topmost achievements in South Tongu District where she served before her retirement.
1. Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey had successfully lobbied for the construction of Sanitary Facility (Washroom) at District Directorate of Education (DDE) office.
2. She regularly painted of Office Block, thereby giving it face lift.
3. Donation of Modern Sign Board to the Directorate.
4. Consistent School visits to motivate and encourage both Learners and Teachers as well as attend to needs of Schools.
5. Inculcate Virtue of Tolerance among the Staff of the District Education Office (DEO).
6. Promotion of Unity among the Staff.
7. Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey personally donated a trip of sand for the construction of Avegorme  Basic School.
8. A personal donation of 6 bags of cement towards the plastering of Sogakofe EP basic.
9. Personal Cash donations to other schools to support various causes.
10. Fostering unity among second cycle schools.
11. She also lobbied and acquired a Nissan patrol vehicle for the directorate a month after taking office in October 2017.
She has a vast experience in Research, Data Collection, analysis and report writing, as well as book / training manual development, Microfinance management, Monitoring and Evaluation and business development. Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey has a couple of publications to her credit.
Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey Early Childhood and Education
Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey was born on 20th February, 1962, to her parents who were both educationists; the late Mr. Godfred Kwasi Botsio Zentey, of blessed memory, and Madam Gladys Rejoice Akuvi Kloh.
She is the first of eight (8) blended siblings. She spent most of her pre-career life with her maternal grandmother, madam Felicia Afua Dzegblor of blessed memory, at Amedzofe, her hometown.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, a faith she still holds on, believing in the supremacy, omniscience, omnipotence and omnipresence of God the Almighty.
Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey Early Education
Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey had her Kindergarten (KG) education at the Amedzofe community early grade school (aka abordzokpo) and proceeded to the Demonstration school of the E.P Training College, Amedzofe for her primary school education.
She continued at the E.P Middle School at Amedzofe, where she successfully passed the Common Entrance Examination in form one and gained admission to Kpando Secondary School in 1974, at the tender age of 12 years.

1. Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey, the teacher in the classroom
Having gone through five years of secondary education, she later trained as a professional teacher at the E.P Training College, Amedzofe, (Now E.P College of Education) for her 3 year Post Secondary Certificate ‘A’ and graduated in1982.
She had, for the first few years of her career, worked at Agona Nyakrom Primary ‘A’ school, Kpando District Office and Kpando Konda LA Primary School.
Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey proceeded on further studies at the Specialist Training College, Winneba, for her teachers’ Diploma in Home Science Education and graduated as one of the best three obtaining Second Class Upper, in 1990.
Thereafter, she taught the subject in Presbyterian Secondary School, Osu, where she taught Management In Living as well as Food and Nutrition, but she was particularly fond of and good at teaching Clothing and Textiles, in which she had a special flair and passion. She again went for further studies in 1994.
In 1998, she obtained a BSc. Degree with First Class Honours from the University of Ghana, Legon after enduring almost one year of a strike by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG).
Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey was then posted to Presbyterian Secondary School, Teshie, where she taught for many years before pursuing her second Degree Programme in Development Studies at the reputable Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), Legon.
She graduated with MPhil in 2004, thus qualifying as a Development specialist as well. This enabled her to venture into other areas of work in the private sector, where she practiced as a research field assistant, Microfinance Educationist, training manuals developer, among others.
In 2006, still hungry for more knowledge and skills enhancement, the retired Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey pursued a short course at the African Centre for Leadership and Human Resources Development (AFRILEAD) and was awarded a Executive Certificate in Managerial Leadership.
2. Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey, the teacher in administration
Upon having been successful in an interview in 2013, she moved into education administration at the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Education Directorate, then, one of the newly created Education Directorates in Accra.
She was appointed the first Head of Early Childhood Education. Having performed well on her schedule and also exhibited great potential and versatility, she was re-assigned after a few months, as the Coordinator for Higher Institutions in the Municipality and later also as the Head of the Supervision and Monitoring.
3. Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey, the Director of Education
In 2016, Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey was promoted and appointed to the rank of Director II. Her first posting was in the Western Regional Education Directorate as the Deputy Regional Director.
She continued her career as the Headquarters of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Accra, as the Deputy Divisional Director of the Curriculum Research and Development Division (CRDD), which later became the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) under the Ministry of Education.
With the new placement of NaCCA, she opted to rather remain with GES, hence her reposting to the South Tongu District, as the substantive Director of Education in October, 2017, a position she has held till her mandatory retirement on 20th February, 2022.
Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey’s oversight responsibilities and positions held
In the 2018/2019 academic year, she was assigned to have overnight responsibilities in acting capacity as the District Director of North Tongu for eleven months, Headmistress for Dabala Secondary Technical School in South Tongu District, all running concurrently.
Other positions held include the Vice Chairman of the Volta chapter of the Conference of Directors of Education (CODE), the representative of CODE on the Volta Regional Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Education Service.
She has been the Acting and Presiding Chairperson of this Committee till her retirement. She also held the position on National Treasurer of CODE, Ghana from 2019 to 2021.
Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey’s Associations
Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey is a member of the Conference of Directors of Education, the Ghana Home Economics Association (GHEA), where she was the National Treasurer for three years, the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and a registered member of the Ghana Association of Writers (GAW).
Other Alumni groups she belongs to are the University of Ghana, Specialist Training College, Ameco Old Students Association and the Kpasec Old Students Association (KOSA).
In her last two groups, she is always a live wire, making things work out with excellence.
Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey’s most passionate hobbies are singing, fashion designing and writing.
