According to the letter, the Pre-tertiary Teacher Unions raised concerns over the appointment of a new Director-General for the Ghana Education Service (GES) following which the MELR met the Leadership on Friday 4 November, 2022 to explore amicable solution to avoid any labour unrest and its implications.

However, the Unions had declared a nationwide strike and despite several attempts, they failed to call off the strike, and it is still ongoing.
