Categories of Teachers to be Licensed by National Teaching Council

The National Teaching Council (NTC) has announced two (2) categories of teachers who shall be licensed.

The categories of teachers outlined by the National Teaching Council (NTC) are Pre-Service Teachers and In-Service Teachers.

1. PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS

Pre-Service Teachers are qualified teachers from teacher training institutions.

Reasons every teacher must attend Professional Development workshop

These teachers have to pass the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE). The
provisional license is printed online.

2. IN-SERVICE TEACHERS

The In-service Teachers are Public and Private. These are qualified teachers who were employed before 1st September 2018.

Teachers in this category do
not need to write the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE).

According to the National Teaching Council, they will be issued with license upon satisfying other necessary conditions.

PROCEDURE FOR LICENSING OF IN-SERVICE TEACHERS

a. All teachers in the district will fill a form at the school on circuit basis, signed by the head of the institution and endorsed by the District Director.

b. The signed form is submitted to NTC for planning.

REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRATION

1. Professional certificate

2. First appointment letter

3. Active email address

4. SSNIT number

5. Scanned passport picture

NTC recommended activities for Continuous Professional Development of Teachers

CONDITIONS FOR LICENSING AND REGISTRATION

1. Must have completed Teacher Training Program before 1st September 2018.

2. Must have been employed as at 31st August, 2018.

3. Must have paid the license fee. (Private school teachers are to pay directly (GH¢ 200.00) Public school teachers are to be deducted at source from GES payroll).

4. Must upload all necessary documents on the TPG portal waiting for activation from NTC.
