The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accepted an error in its Petition filed at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, 30th December, 2020 challenging the Presidential election results.
In a statement issued by one of the legal team members of the National Democratic Congress and the Member of Parliament for South Dayi Rockson Nelson Etse Dafeamekpor said, the errors sighted in the petition are minor and cannot change the premier content of issues outlined by the Petitioner (Mr. John Dramani Mahama).
He noted that, the errors being spoken about are not fatal and all practicing lawyers know that they make these mistakes all the time.
He has cautioned the members of the National Democratic Congress not to set a tone for the New Patriotic Party to use again them in these era.
“We must not allow the NPP to set the tone. The errors being spoken about are not fatal and all practicing lawyers know that we make these mistakes all the time. It is clerical and not fatal. It’s remediable even in open Court. it’s inter-positional. So let’s get to the substance” He explained.
In the petition Mr. Mahama request s, “An order of mandatory injunction directing the 1 Respondent to proceed to conduct a second election with Petitioner and 1st
Respondent as the candidates as required under Article 63(4) and (5) of the 1992 Constitution.”
Meanwhile, some Ghanaians believe that, the statement should rather be a second election with Petitioner (John Dramani Mahama of NDC) and 2nd respondent (Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of NPP) and not the 1st respondent (Electoral Commission).
