The two major political parties National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have locked horns over which government constructed the Naval Barracks at Eastern Naval Command, Tema for the Servicemen.
On Monday, 17th May, 2021 photos of the Naval Barracks at Eastern Naval Command in Tema surfaced on social media where key officials of both political parties to their social media handles to fight over the ownership of the project intended to strengthen the Security Services Housing Operation.
In a widely circulated statement intercepted by Coverghana.com.gh, saw some bigwigs of NPP including but not limited to Kofi Asare, Sir-Obama Pokuase, Adamoah Jack, Jojo Stephen and NPP Project Bureau official Facebook page who claim that, the project was constructed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.
According to their claims, the Naval Barracks at the Eastern Naval Command, Tema for the servicemen is the second phase of the Security Services Housing Programme.
“The project is fully gated and made up of 23 blocks with a total of 368 apartments. Out of the 23 blocks, 8 blocks are 3-bedroom flats and 15 blocks are 2-bedroom flats.” They revealed.
In buttressing on the the above claims, the Ministry of Works and Housing, Ghana in a Facebook post captioned MWH EDUCATION SERIES #Episode – 5 said, as part of the Government’s Security Services Housing Programme, the Ministry of Works and Housing constructed a Naval Barracks at the Eastern Naval Command, Tema for the servicemen.
The Ministry reinterated that, the project is the second phase of the Security Services Housing Programme. It is fully gated and made up of 23 blocks with a total of 368 apartments. Out of the 23 blocks, 8 blocks are 3-bedroom flats and 15 blocks are 2-bedroom flats.
According to the Ministry of Works and Housing’s statement, the facility also comes with a multi-purpose sports facility and a playing ground for the personnel and their families. The project was fully funded by the Government of Ghana and constructed by Messrs Amandi Holdings Group. “Watch out for the next edition on Police Housing Project (Security Services Housing Programme Phase 3.” The post said.
But in a counter post, the former Deputy Communications Minister under former President John Dramani Mahama’s govermment Felix Kwakye Ofosu said, it’s untrue to say the project was constructed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo NPP government.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu said the 368 unit Security Services Housing project phase 2 located at Tema New Town is part of former President John Dramani Mahama’s investment in housing and was started in 2014 following the completion of the first phase made up of 136 housing units at Community one in Tema.
According to him, photos and posts circulated by some NPP folks alleging that the housing project was undertaken by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government is completely false.
He has since rubbished the post emanating from NPP and put out a strong argument in support of the NDC govermment regarding the project.
