New Board Members of the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA) have been inaugurated by the Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

Speaking after the inaugural ceremony, the Minister said, GIDA has been active in field activities by undertaking three projects that date way back to the 1960s. The Authority has worked tirelessly to rehabilitate these projects which includes the Tono, Kpong and Vea irrigation projects.

He again said, GIDA employed new concepts to revive the abandoned projects. Currently, the three facilities are about to be handed over to the Ministry of Food And Agriculture Ghana  hence the installation of the board.

According to the Minister, the projects were rehabilitated with loans from the World Bank and as such, they look forward to generating income for the government of Ghana to pay back these loans.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto believes that through proper managerial methods employed by the new board, the facilities will be maintained to keep them in good shape.

Mr. Osei Owusu Agyeman from Ghana Commercial Agriculture Project (GCAP) has been appointed as Chairman of the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA).

He shared his remarks after the board took in the respective oaths.  He expressed his appreciation to the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and to my ministry for the assurance in them to contribute to the development of Ghana, especially in the Food and Agriculture sector.  He averred that he and his colleagues are committed to harnessing their joint experiences and skills to transform GIDA and the country at large.

2. Alhaji Suraj Boadi (Irrigatioardn farmer)

3. Dr. Samuel Kwame Kumahor (Ghana Faculty of Agriculture)

4. Dr. Edward Yeboah, Soil Research Institute (CSIR)

5. George Prah (Deputy Director for Crop Services, Ministry of Food and Agriculture

6. CEO of GIDA, Ing.Wilson K. Darkwa.
