NIA announces dates to release the backlog of cards to applicants

The National Identification Authority (NIA) led by it Executive Secretary Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah is set to begin the issuance backlog of Ghana cards to applicants who took part in the 2019 special exercise.

According to NIA, individuals who have registered but are yet to be issued with their Ghana cards by the National Identification Authority (NIA) will receive their cards by first week of June 2021.

This announcement follows the opening of the regional and district offices of the NIA to facilitate the process as well as ensure that the authority has a strong presence in all regions.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Graphic, the Head of Corporate Affairs of the NIA, Mr. Abudu Abdul-Ganiyu, said all the issues that created the backlog had been cleared and the authority was now ready to issue the cards.

“Due to some technical challenges, a number of people who went through the process in 2019 during the special exercise and also last year could not be issued with their cards.”
