Noel Thomas David Gallagher is an English singer, guitarist, and songwriter. He was the principal songwriter, lead guitarist, and co-lead vocalist of the rock band Oasis until their breakup in 2009. After quitting Oasis, he formed Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
Noel Gallagher is one of the most successful songwriters in British music history, having written eight UK number-one singles and co-writing another, as well as being the sole or major composer of 10 UK number-one studio albums. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential songwriters in the history of British rock music, with numerous prominent succeeding artists citing him as an inspiration.
He began playing the guitar at the age of twelve and worked as a roadie and technician for Inspiral Carpets when he was 21. After turning down the offer, Gallagher agreed to join the band on the condition that he seize creative control of the band and become its sole songwriter and main guitarist.
The band’s debut album, Definitely Maybe (1994), was a critical and financial achievement. Their second album, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? (1995), topped the album charts in numerous countries, and their third studio album, Be Here Now (1997), became the fastest-selling album in UK chart history. Oasis’ final two albums, Don’t Believe the Truth (2005) and Dig Out Your Soul (2008), were praised as their best efforts in over a decade. Gallagher left Oasis in August 2009, following a confrontation with his brother. He later joined Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, with whom he has released four studio albums.
