What happened at Oakland Hills Country Club?
At about 10 a.m. on Thursday, the 17th day of February 2022, Oakland Hills Country Clubhouse got ravaged by fire.
After the fire broke out through the roof and to the opposite parts of the clubhouse, several emergency departments responded.
Being a place of history, the Oakland Hills club clubhouse was completed in 1922. Located at 3951 West Maple Road Bloomfield Hills,The Oakland Hills guild has hosted multiple major tournaments and was often selected as the place for the upcoming U.S. Women’s Open.
The clubhouse houses memorabilia and art from the nine major championships and therefore the Ryder Cup that Oakland Hills has hosted over nearly a century which in step with sources is irreplaceable. The clubhouse was among the biggest wood structures in Michigan consistent with fire officials.
However, no casualties were reported and therefore the reason for the fire is yet to be determined.
Speaking to Detroit news, the president of the Oakland Hills Club said, “We have lost our iconic clubhouse”. He continued to thank firefighters who saved some priceless memorabilia during a “gut-wrenching day.” as he described.
“Only time will tell what’s next, but we are going to move forward with a purpose to honor all people who made this grand building come to life with their golf and their work,” he said.
Greg Kampe, a longtime member and coach of the men’s manager at Oakland University also said, “It’s hard to speak when you’re crying” talking to Detroit news.
The Oakland Hills Club board had a gathering on Saturday morning and that they agreed that a duplicate of the long-lasting Oakland Hills Clubhouse be rebuilt.
