Management of Ghana Education Service (GES) in collaboration with Teacher Unions in Education have agreed on the final contact hours for Basic Schools across Ghana.
The agreement came after the Teacher Unions met with the Ghana Education Service following the Unions’ disagreement with GES on the 2022 academic semester calendar and subsequent rejection of contact hours.
In a statement, the three teacher unions thus; Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concern Teachers (CCT) have indicated that, the first term of the 2022 Academic Year is made up of 12 weeks contrary to reports of 13 weeks.
In a letter addressed to the Director General of Ghana Education Service by the three Teacher Unions, it was indicated that the negotiated and agreed total weeks for the year is 40.
The Ghana Education Service at the beginning of the Academic Year changed the trimester system to a semester system, with a total of 43 weeks. However, after concerns raised by the teacher unions and other stakeholders in the education sector, it was revised to the trimester system with a total of 40 weeks.

1. 7:00am to 2:00pm
2. 7:30am to 2:30am
3. 8:00am to 3:00pm
Per the agreed contact hours, there would be 7 hours in a day, 12, 14 and 14 weeks for the first, second and third terms respectfully.
