Operation Vanguard storms Tano River, seizes 16 excavators use for illegal mining

Personnel of Operation Vanguard and Ghana Immigration Service have embarked on a field operation dubbed ‘Operation clean water bodies’, an action against illegal mining at the Western Region of Ghana to help curb illegal mining activities within the region.

The operation which took place on Wednesday, April 20, 2021, led by the Western Regional Minister Kwabenya Okyere Darko Mensah together with the Municipal Chief Executive of Amenfi West, saw a total of sixteen (16) excavators which were used to mine directly on the Tano River being seized and handed over to the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Abu Jinapor.

The Western Regional Minister Kwabenya Okyere Darko Mensah pleaded with the chiefs of the communities to fully collaborate in fighting this menace. He has therefore assured the people of the communities on their commitment to fighting illegal mining to regain the sanity of our water bodies, therefore, they should see themselves as partners so that collectively government can succeed.
