Paul Pogba handed 4-year ban for doping

Paul Pogba, the renowned midfielder from France and Juventus, has been handed a four-year ban from the sport following a doping offence. The suspension comes after Pogba tested positive for testosterone, leading to his provisional suspension in September.

Pogba, who achieved global recognition for his pivotal role in France’s World Cup victory in 2018, made headlines in 2016 when he became the most expensive footballer in history after his record-breaking £89 million transfer to Manchester United.

The incident in question occurred on August 20 when Pogba, who is set to turn 31 in March, was listed as an unused substitute for Juventus during a Serie A match against Udinese. It was during this time that he tested positive for testosterone, a banned substance under anti-doping regulations.

Italy’s national anti-doping body promptly imposed a suspension on Pogba, and a subsequent request from Italy’s sports prosecutor to enforce a four-year ban has been granted.

The tribunal responsible for the case determined that Pogba had indeed violated anti-doping rules, citing the presence of “non-endogenous testosterone metabolites,” a prohibited substance. The tribunal further stated that the test results were consistent with the external origin of the target compounds, indicating a clear breach of regulations.
