PIWAK CEO DONATES GH₵300,000 TO ABOKOBI TRADERS IN GA EAST MUNICIPALITY
A total of three hundred (300) market women and traders in the Ga East Municipality have received financial support from Dr. Prince Nelson Mortoti, Chief Executive Officer of Piwak Natural Health, as part of his company’s commitment to empowering small-scale entrepreneurs and reviving community businesses.
Each beneficiary received GH₵1,000, amounting to a total donation of GH₵300,000, during a colorful ceremony held at Abokobi Municipal Assembly fourcourt under the theme “Empowering Our Market Heroes.”
The initiative was made possible through the collaboration of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, Hon. Elikplim Akurugu, who played a pivotal role in mobilizing the beneficiaries and facilitating the event.
The ceremony was graced by notable dignitaries, including Professor Kwame Gyan of the University of Ghana Law School, Municipal Chief Executive Edmund Agbo, traditional leaders, imams, representatives of the Ga East Municipal Assembly, and members of the media.
PREVIOUS FINANCIAL SUPPORT
In a heartfelt and impactful ceremony held at Aveyime-Battor in North Tongu district of the Volta region, Piwak Natural Health, led by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Prince Nelson Mortoti has extended direct financial support to two hundred (200) victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage across the three Tongu districts – South, Central, and North Tongu each beneficiary received GH¢1,000, totaling GH¢200,000, as part of Piwak’s continued effort to support recovery and build resilience in flood-affected communities in April 2025.

MARKET TRADERS: THE BACKBONE OF GHANA’S ECONOMY
In his keynote address, Dr. Mortoti praised Ghanaian market traders, describing them as “local heroes who tirelessly contribute to the growth of the nation’s economy.”
He emphasized that while government workers rely on salaries, traders and small business owners create their own opportunities through innovation, perseverance, and hard work.
“Market traders are entrepreneurs who generate their own income. I call them money-making machines because they hold and feel money every blessed day,” Dr. Mortoti stated.
He lamented the social stigma often attached to trading professions, recalling how, as children, many were ashamed to admit their parents were traders. He called for an end to the notion that market work is for the uneducated or unsuccessful, urging society to respect all forms of honest labor.
“Let us remove the mentality that those working in markets are of low class while government workers are of high class. Both are contributing significantly to Ghana’s economy,” he added.
ADDRESSING THE CHALLENGES OF MARKET WOMEN
Dr. Mortoti acknowledged the numerous challenges facing traders, including debt, limited access to capital, lack of entrepreneurial training, poor health, and single parenting.
He narrated the story of a woman who, through the sale of cassava dough, was able to build a two-storey house and educate her children to the tertiary level—proof, he said, of what determination and entrepreneurship can achieve.
“Although we can’t stop their struggles, Piwak is here to give a little push to our beneficiaries who needed this token to revive their businesses. Little drops of water make a mighty ocean,” he said.
APPEAL FOR IMPROVED INFRASTRUCTURE
Turning his attention to development challenges, Dr. Mortoti urged government authorities to prioritize infrastructural development, particularly the improvement of road networks within Dome-Kwabenya.
“Dome-Kwabenya is one of the largest constituencies in Ghana, yet it lacks adequate infrastructural development. The poor road networks must be addressed to attract more business opportunities,” he stressed.
He commended Hon. Elikplim Akurugu for her consistent efforts toward improving the living standards of her constituents and called on all stakeholders to support her initiatives.
“I say, sister ayekoo! Let us all rally behind her to achieve our collective success,” he added.
PARTNERSHIP WITH NIB AND FUTURE PROJECTS
As part of the program, the National Investment Bank (NIB), represented by its Madina Branch Manager, Mr. Musa Haruna provided financial literacy education to the traders, focusing on savings and responsible money management.
Dr. Mortoti also announced the establishment of the Piwak Foundation and Entrepreneurial Drive International, a new initiative aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and supporting community development across Ghana.
“Although this token is small, it should not be taken for granted. With hope and trust, I believe you will maximize it and bring prosperity to your families and communities,” he concluded.
He extended gratitude to all dignitaries, traditional leaders, and community members who supported the event, reiterating his commitment to humanitarian and economic empowerment causes.
