President Akufo-Addo directs Ursula Owusu to suspend her directives to GBC to reduce their channels

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, following media discussions and debates on issues regarding the Ghana Broadcasting Cooperation (GBC) and the Crystal Television, has directed the Communications Minister Hon. Ursula Owusu Ekuful to immediately suspend the GBC Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) directives.

In a press statement signed by the Director of Communications at the Communications Directorate of the Jubilee House Eugene Arhin issued on 23rd July, 2020 disclosed that, the office of the president has swiftly directed Minister for Communications Hon. Ursula Owusu Ekuful, MP to suspend the implementation of the directives given to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in connection with the reduction of GBC’s channels on the Digital Terrestrial Television Platform.

The directive again asked the Minister to allow rooms for further and proper consultant with stakeholders on the subject matter.

Meanwhile, earlier, the National Media Commission (NMC) has, in a press statement reportedly stopped the Communications Minister from reducing GBC and Crystal Television channels from the Digital Terrestrial Television. According to the NMC’s statement signed by its Board Chairman, Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafo suggests that, any interference or any action by politicians and the NCA will undermine the constitutional mandated institution from discharging its responsibilities, hence must be abrogated.
