President Nana Addo directs MMDCEs to remain at post until further notice

Preaident Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to continue to remain at post until further notice.

In a statement issued by the Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who were at post immediately before the inauguration ceremony on Thursday 7th January, 2021 should continue to remain at post untl further notice.

This directive is in accordance with Article 243 (3) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.

“You are to take note of the provision of section 14 (5) of the Presidential Transition Act (2012) which states that you “shall not take a decision involving a policy issue” Also, you are to act in accordance with leter No. SRC/DA555/555/01 dated 21 December, 2020 which gives directives on financial commitments, recruitments among others.” The statement said.

Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across the country were appointed by Preaident Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2017 after he won the 2016 general elections. The MMDCEs, according to the 1992 Constitution are supposed to end their first term in office with the President on the eve of 7th January, 2021. But the president following the provisions in the Constitution has detected them to continue to remain at post until further notice.
