The Member of Parliament for South Tongu Constituency Wisdom Kobena Mensah Woyome has taken on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s govermment over the current rainstorm disaster which devastated some residents within his Constituency.

Mr. Woyome who visited the affected communities to ascertain the damage caused by the heavy rainstorm says, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) under the current dispensation is incensitive and irresponsible towards the plight of the affected residents whose houses and properties have been destroyed.

“NADMO as an institution for a very long time has failed abysmally to support communities and residents who face these kind of challenges under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government” He said.

He again disclosed that, a lot of disasters have happened within the South Tongu District but NADMO failed to support the people with relief items in the current dispensation. He has therefore called on NADMO to live up to expectation and serve the needs of the people when disasters occurred.

“It’s my wish to see the South Tongu District Assembly, NADMO and other stakeholders come together to deliberate on the issue and find a lasting solution to the disaster.” The MP said.

Kobena Mensah Woyome who is determined to support the affected residents said, the disaster is beyond his capacity as an individual hence govermment needs to immediately intervene for them to collectively support the people.

According to the residents, since the disaster occured on Thursday, 4th March, 2021, NADMO only visited them without any relief items.

Information gathered by Coverghana.com.gh indicated that, about forty-five (45) households of over two-hundred (200) residents were affected.

School activities have occasionally stopped in the affected communities since the roofs of some school buildings were ripped off by the rainstorm.

The affected schools in the District include; Dabala Roman Catholic (R/C) Comboni Basic School, Dabala Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Basic “B” Kindergarten School, Dzebetato D/A Basic School, Lakpo D/A Kindergarten block, Anyidzekpo D/A Basic School and Agordomi EP Primary School.

Affected communities are; Dzokplenu Dugame, and Dzokplenu Amemorkope, Atitekpo, Wlorto, Agborlikpota, Detsawome, Gbenorkorpe, Dzebetato, Lakpo, Dabala etc.
