Ghanaian reggae/dancehall artist Mustapha Rahman, popularly known as Rudebwoy Ranking, has passed away after a brief illness, according to sources close to the matter.

The former BullHaus entertainment act died at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, formerly Ridge Hospital in Accra, where he was undergoing treatment.

Fans and family members of the ‘Hero’ singer shared the news in the early hours of Monday, April 24, 2023.

Rudebwoy Ranking was buried in accordance with Islamic customs at the Madina Cemetery at mid-afternoon, following a Muslim burial service at the Mamobi Mosque. The artist, known for hits such as ‘Jah Over Dem’, ‘No Drama’, ‘Yaro’, ‘Level Up’, and ‘My Time’, was signed onto RawMind Records before his untimely death.

Social media was flooded with tributes from fans, who eulogized Rudebwoy Ranking for his contribution to the birth of the dancehall genre in Ghana. One user posted “RIP Rudebwoy, thanks for sharing your voice with the world through music.”

However, others criticized the media and colleagues who they felt had neglected the artist while he was alive and in need of support.

Rudebwoy Ranking’s death has left a void in Ghana’s vibrant music scene, and his legacy as a pioneer of the dancehall genre will be remembered.
