Sadick Adams, former Ghana U-17 Star, announces retirement from football at Age 33

Sadick Adams, former Ghana U-17 star, has officially declared his retirement from professional football after enjoying a successful 16-year career.

In a heartfelt message shared on Facebook, the 33-year-old expressed his gratitude towards the clubs he had the privilege to play for, his coaches, and his teammates.

“Today is a bittersweet day for me, filled with introspection and thankfulness. It has been an immense honor to represent all these remarkable clubs throughout my football journey. With a heavy heart, yet no regrets, I have come to the realization that I can no longer maintain the unwavering level of excellence that professional football demands,” wrote Adams.

“I have an immense love for the beautiful game of football, and I firmly believe that there is only one acceptable way to play it. Recognizing that I can no longer compete at the standard that I find acceptable, I have made this decision on my own accord. While it may not bring me happiness, it is the right and honorable course of action to take at this stage in my life. I have cherished every single moment of my football career, and it has truly been a blessing to play the game for as long as I have,” he added.

Adams commenced his career on a promising note, leaving his mark on the Ghana U-17 team’s journey to a fourth-place finish at the 2007 U-17 World Cup. He impressed with his four goals, including a crucial goal in the semi-final defeat against Spain.

His performances caught the attention, leading to a move from AshantiGold to Atletico Madrid, where he played for the B team alongside notable players such as David de Gea, the Manchester United goalkeeper.

However, he faced difficulties in breaking into Atletico’s first team and subsequently had stints at FK Vojvodina in Serbia, Étoile du Sahel and Hammam-Sousse in Tunisia, Al-Ansar, Berekum Chelsea, Al-Nahda, Al-Feiha, Turk Ocagi, Asante Kotoko, Shabab Bourj, and Arambagh KS.

Throughout his career, Adams represented a total of 14 different clubs. One of his most memorable moments came in the 2017 MTN FA Cup final when he scored a remarkable hat-trick, propelling Kotoko to a 3-1 victory over bitter rivals Hearts of Oak, securing the trophy in Tamale.

After impressing at the U-17 level, Adams received call-ups to the U-20 team, Black Satellites, and also made a few appearances for the Black Stars.
