St. Catherine SHS wins UNDP Ghana’s Waste Innovation Challenge for SHS

St. Catherine Senior High School at Agbakope, in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region has won UNDP Ghana’s Waste Innovation Challenge for Senior High Schools in Ghana.

St. Catherine Senior High School is one of the girls schools that participated in UNDP Innovative Sustainable Waste Management Challenge across the Country.

The school emerged overall best in the competition organized by UNDP and was awarded an amount of $4,000 support for their project.

With an innovation to build a prototype solar powered waste segregation bin, Obuasi Senior High Technical School has emerged 1st runner-up in the UNDP Waste Innovation Challenge for High Schools. The school also received an amount of $3,000 to support their project.

Meanwhile, Methodist Girls Senior High School has emerged 2nd runner-up for their Automatic Waste Sorting Bin idea in the UNDP Ghana’s Waste Innovation Challenge for High Schools. They have also received $2000 to help implement their idea.

In all, an amount of $9,000.00 was awarded by UNDP to the three winning schools with trophies.

Innovation holds the key to sustainable waste management, a Waste Recovery Platform project carried out by UNDP to help Reduce Reuse Recycle in Ghana.

Woyome donates bags of cement and sand to Dabala Senior High Technical School

The contest took place at the National Theatre and St. Catherine Girls SHS won after successfully defending a proposal they presented on Innovative Ways of Disposing Waste.

Other contestants were Aburi Girls Senior High School, Manfe Girls Senior High School, Cape Tech., Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Methodist Girls Senior High School.
