Teacher Unions release 11 outstanding issues neglected by Government

The Pre-tertiary Teacher Unions in Education have released eleven (11) outstanding issues of grievances neglected by Government represented by the National Labour Commission (NLC), Ghana Education Service (GES), Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR).

According to the aggrieved teacher unions, it must be noted that, these eleven (11) issues have been brought before the National Labour Commission on which the Labour Commission had directed that, the management of Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Teacher Unions sit to address them.

The Unions believe that, the issues have been deliberately neglected by the stakeholders who matters in addressing the issues.

The Unions informed the National Labour Commission that the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service have not only reneged on their responsibilities but also failed to show their commitment in addressing them.

In a statement issued by Thomas T. Musah – General Secretary of GNAT,  Eric Agbe-Carbonu – President of NAGRAT and King Ali Awudu – President of CCT-GH hereby bring the outstanding issues again to the National Labour Commission’s attention for further directions to ensure industrial peace and harmony.

The eleven (11) issues are;

1. Refund of GH¢44.55 to Teachers arising out of the one-teacher, one- laptop.

2. Payment of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) allowance to Teachers.

3. Progression to the Grades of Director II & I arising out of scheme of service.

4. Delayed payment of allowance to teachers in areas designated as deprived.

5. Delay in developing scheme of service for staff of Ghana Education Service (GES) since the adoption of the Public Service Manual and Policy Framework in 2015.

6. Delay in Lower Ranks Promotion since 2015.

7. Some teachers who were promoted/upgraded since 2015 have not been placed on the right scale.

8. Reversal of the SHS Semester system to Trimester.

9. Delay in the payment of Responsibility allowance since 2018.

10. Delay in the payment of car maintenance allowance since 2018

11. Review of the Collective Agreement
