UEFA to overturn Ajax qualification for next champions league

Eredivisie was declared null and void last month but Ajax still has automatic UEFA Champions League spot.

AZ Alkmaar have written to UEFA urging them to overturn the Dutch Football Association’s decision to award Ajax the countries automatic birth into the next season’s Champions League Campaign.
The Dutch government has ban all sporting activities in the country until 1st September, 2020 at the earliest due to the coronavirus pandemic. This means that no promotion nor relegation in the Netherlands top league. But the decision denied Ajax the league title who were leading AZ with goal difference and nine games still to play before the cancelation of the campaign.

However, the football governing body awarded Ajax automatic spot reserved for the league Champions while AZ Alkmaar will have to go through the normal knockout rounds.

AZ is of the view that, they should have been made the top placed team because they had beaten Ajax both home and Away in the league campaign and believes goal difference is no objective differentiator.
But the spokesman of the league governing body said they had no plans to reverse their decision. “We decided the places in the European club competition next season on the basis of three criteria: transparency, objectivity and sportsmanship. We are keeping the rankings and Ajax is the number one”

Ajax came close to wining the UEFA Champions league again in recent times but eliminated in this season’s campaign by Valencia still have an automatic spot in the next Champions league edition. Will UEFA consider the decision or have a view of what AZ have presented to them?

This seasons champions league is also yet to come to its end with some crucial matches yet to be played like Barcelona to welcome Napoli on a 1-1 aggregate, Manchester City to take on Real Madrid on a 2-1 aggregate and not forgetting Bayern Munich to hold Chelsea again at the Alianz arena with a 3-0 humiliation to the England giants.
