WCQ22: GFA explains reasons for not releasing Black Stars Squad ahead of Nigeria game

The Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has explained reasons for not releasing the Black Stars Squad ahead of the crucial game between Ghana and Nigeria.

The Black Stars of Ghana and the Supper Eagles of Nigeria will play their first leg match on 25th March, 2022 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

As of the now, the Management Committee of the Ghana Football Association has not released the squad for the World Cup Quilifers play-off matches with the African rivalry, the Supper Eagles of Nigeria.

Ahead of the crucial game, the head coach of Nigeria, Austine Eguavoen has released the Supper Eagles squad to face the Stars in Cape Coast Sports Stadium and the return leg on 29th March, 2022 in Abuja.

The interim head coach of the Black Stars coach Otto Addo is expected to name his squad, but nothing good is forthcoming.

Explaining the reasons for not releasing Black Stars squad, the Executive Member for the Ghana Football Association, Dr. Tony Aubyn, says the reason behind the decision for not release the squad ahead of the match is for a positive reason.

He further explained that, the Ghana  Football Association (GFA) has resolved not to publicly release the list of Black Stars men in the World Cup Quilifers play-off against Nigeria national team.

Dr. Tony Aubyn added that, the paramount reason for not releasing the Black Stars squad is as a result of technical decision. He said this in an interview with Kofi Mensah of Starr FM.

In the interview, he said, “The reason why the squad has not been released is a technical decision backed by management.”

Dr. Tony Aubyn clarified by saying, “We recently formed the technical team and the management team, and I’m sure they have a reason why and they have their own timelines. It is for a good reason. I cannot explain, even though I’m in the EXCO. We have given the responsibility to the technical team. I believe that the squad will be announced soon, but I can’t tell how soon because I don’t know the timeline.”
