All Witch Camps will be closed in our next government – Prof. Opoku-Agyemang

The Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has pledged that the next NDC administration will close down all witch camps, particularly the Gambaga witch camp.
According to the running mate, the presence of witch camps is a dent on the country’s image and democratic status, adding that the practice of tagging of people, especially the elderly as witches, and relegating them to camps, would no longer be tolerated.
Addressing community members and inmates of the Gambaga witch camp during a visit to Gambaga in the East Mamprusi district, as part of her campaign tour of the North East region, Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang said the NDC government would apply the laws stringently to stop the practice.
Describing the recent lynching of a 90year old women in Kafaba in the Gonja East District of the Savanna Region on accusation of her being a witch, as “highly unacceptable” Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, promised that an NDC administration would not pay lip service in addressing the menace.

“We shall tackle this menace decisively,” she said.
Touching on their welfare, the Vice Presidential candidate noted that adequate social protection interventions would be provided for the inmates, who would also be integrated into their communities after the closure of the camps.
She urged the youth in the area to desist from the practice, and rather protect and promote the welfare of the aged.
Addressing the traditional leaders and people of the town, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang cited a number of stalled infrastructural projects in the town, promising that the NDC administration would complete all of its projects in the area that have been abandoned by the current government.
“All those interested in the all-inclusive development of the country should support the NDC to return to power,” she said, adding that the 2020 election campaign is based on record, and not insults.
