Allow final year students to resume school; consider organizing vacation classes for them – Akufo-Addo to stakeholders in education

 President Nana Addo Dabkwa Akufo-Addo, in a meeting with pre-tertiary teacher unions, representatives of the Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Education including other stakeholders in education has proposed that, the teacher unions, Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education should allow final year students to resume school in other to continue their academic activities to prepare for the forthcoming final year examination.
President Nana Addo also suggested to the stakeholders in education to consider organization of vacation classes for the final year students and others in order to close the gaps created due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The president made the proposal in a meeting with leaders of teacher unions and other stakeholders in education on Tuesday, 26th May, 2020 in the Jubilee House. The meeting according to close sources was organized to discuss issues regarding reopening of schools suggested by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education.

Per the proposals, final year students in the pre-tertiary institutions thus Junior High Schools and Senior High Schools, university students, Colleges, etc should be allowed to resume school to prepare for their final year examinations such as WASSCE and BECE.

President Akufo-Addo categorically stated that, his proposals are not final hence, the Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Education, Teacher Unions and other stakeholders should further deliberate on the subject matter to reach a common consensus for the way forward.
