2010 Best Health Journalist of the year Richard Dela Sky expresses worry and disappointment over deployment of heavy military personnel to the Volta Region of Ghana.
In a statement, the indefatigable journalist said, the increasing rate of open attack on voltarians ahead of the December 7, 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections is shocking.
Richard Dela Sky noted that, most personalities in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government see nothing wrong with the attack on the people of Volta Region in an election year.
According to the renowned journalist, it’s a shameful act on the part of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government to have deployed heavy military personnel to his opponent’s strong zones. He therefore called on government to, with immediate effect stop such a shameful act and unfair treatment meted out to the people of Volta Region.
“The increasing veiled & barefaced attacks on the people of the Volta Region ahead of the 2020 elections — by some of our leaders & their supporters — is divisive, irresponsible, insular, & repugnant. It’s such a SHAME that people who should know better sometimes don’t. STOP THIS!” He explained.
Earlier, Coverghana.com.gh has reported that, there were Dozens of security men from the military, Immigration, National Security who have been deployed to the Volta Region border town of Aflao and its adjoining villages.
Our checks revealed that, the military personnel were deployed to the Ketu South Municipality in the Volta Region.
Meanwhile the Municipal Chief Executive of the Ketu South Hon. Elliot Edem Agbenorwu in a statement said, the presence of heavy military officers in the area, was to protect the broader town to prevent foreigners and some Ghanaians who were flaunting or disregarding coronavirus pandemic precautionary measures outlined across all boarders in Ghana. This he said was due to the porous nature of the Ghana-Togo boarder.
