The Fédération internationale de Football Association (FIFA) started in 1930. It was hosted and won by the same country, Uruguay. The tournament was played at the Estadio Centenario stadium in Uruguay.

The tournament is played every four (4) years with 32 teams right from the group stage, knocked out to the finale which is played by 4 teams ( 2 for the final and the other 2 to the 3rd position).

During the 2022 tournament, it is rumoured that FIFA will increase the number of participating countries in the tournament starting from the 2026 World Cup.

Throughout the history of the FIFA World Cup, eighteen (18) countries have hosted the World Cup and Qatar is the most recent country making 19 countries as of the 2022 World Cup.

The countries are: Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, and Mexico have each hosted twice.

Uruguay, Switzerland, Sweden, Chile, England, Argentina, Spain, the United States, Japan, and South Korea (jointly), South Africa, and Russia have each hosted once.
Qatar is the recent (2022).

The next World Cup in 2026 will be a jointly hosted tournament by Canada, U.S.A, and Mexico.

On this tangent, Mexico will be country the first country to host FIFA tournaments in three (3) of the World Cups in history so far.
