Central Tongu DCE Aspirants
As constitution demands, a ruling President is mandated to appoint a Municipal or Metropolitan or District Chief Executive, who shall represent him/her for every four administrative years.
In view of this, the New Patriotic Party in collaboration with the Local Govermment constituted a Steering Committee refered to as 2021 MMDCEs Vetting Committee after winning the December 2020 general elections.
As part of the tradition and practices, interested persons were asked to officially filed for vetting/interview and subsequent selection.

Information gathered by Coverghana.com.gh revealed that, five persons successfully filed to be appointed as the Central Tongu District Chief Executive.
The individuals, according to reports were vetted on Saturday, 22nd May, 2021 by the 2021 MMDCEs Vetting Committee formed by the New Patriotic Party in collaboration with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council.
The five (5) persons vetted by the Committee include, Thomas Moore Zonyrah, Raymond Escambelar Korku Abledu, Daniel Amuzu a.k.a Danmuz, Ebenezer Azumah, and John Dunyo.

BRIEF PROFILE OF THE ASPIRANTS
1. Thomas Moore Zonyrah
Mr. Thomas Moore Zonyrah is the incumbent Central Tongu District Chief Executive, who served from 2017 till date. He was the Central Tongu NPP Parliamentary Candidate in 2008 and 2012 respectively. He hails from Mafi Anfoe in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region. He is widely known to be linked to the Presidency through the first lady Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
2. Raymond Escambelar Korku Abledu
Mr. Raymond Escambelar Korku Abledu is the 2020 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Central Tongu Constituency. He narrowlly lost the Parliamentary election to the incumbent MP Mr. Alexander Gabby Resoovet Hottordze. Raymond Escambelar Korku Abledu lives to have the backing of majority Constituency Executives of NPP except the Organizer and the Chairman. He comes from Mafi-Akyemfo few metres away from Adidome Senior High School.

3. Daniel Amuzu a.k.a Danmuz
Mr. Daniel Amuzu hails from Adidome in the Central Tongu District. He is a contractor and contested the NPP Chairmanship in 2018 in Central Tongu and lost to the incumbent Reuben Amara Dorcoo. Further information disclosed that, his hotel (Danmuz hotel) has been used as the coloation center in 2016 and 2020 elections respectively. He can be remembered for his infamous locking up of Dadoboe Primary School classroom for non payment of fees by government under former President John Dramani Mahama’s regime. He took the action as the contractor for the project since govermment failed to pay him.
4. Ebenezer Azumah
Mr. Ebenezer Azumah was the 2016 NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Central Tongu. He is currently the second Volta Regional Vice Chairman of NPP. He was shortlisted together with the current DCE in 2017 but was rejected at Presidency during the final Selection. He comes from Mafi- Mediage near Mafi-Kumase.

5. John Dunyo
Mr. John Dunyo is the oldest aspirants among them. He was the first Headmaster of Mafi-Kumase Senior High Technical School. In 2004, he contested for the Central Tongu Parliamentary seat on the ticket of NPP but lost to Joe Gidisu in the first ever Central Tongu MP’s election. He also contested for NPP Volta Regional Treasurer in 2018 and lost the election. He is a half brother to the incumbent Central Tongu Constituency Chairman, Mr Reuben Amara Dorcoo. He hails from Mafi-Kumase.
SELECTION OF APPLICANTS
The Volta Regional MMDCEs Vetting Committee is yet to announce the list of selected aspirants to the National Secretariat for further scrutiny and recommendation. The Regional Committee is mandated to select only three applicants to the National Selection Committee.
The Final Selection Committee shall be constituted to make final selection and recommendation to the office of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for appointment. Proceedings of the National Selection Committee shall be held at the Jubilee House.

A BRIEF ABOUT CENTRAL TONGU DISTRICT
The Central Tongu District Assembly was established out of the former North Tongu District Assembly with Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2077 of 2012. Its administrative Capital is at Adidome. The District lies within latitudes 60N to 6020’N longitude 0025’ E to 0045’E.
It shares boundaries with Adaklu District to the North, South Tongu to the South, North Tongu to the West and Akatsi South to the East; all in the Volta Region. Ada West and Ada East Districts of the Greater Accra Region also share the South-Western boundaries with the District. It has a total land area of about 682.22 Km2 which is about 3.1% of the total land area of the Volta Region.
President Nana Addo directs MMDCEs to remain at post until further notice
The District is made up of three traditional areas – Mafi, Bakpa and Vume – with their unique chieftaincy institutions. Mafi Traditional Area covers the Mafi Kumasi Area Council, Mafi Kpedzeglo and greater parts of Adidome Town Council. Bakpa Traditional Area mainly covers Bakpa Area Council and a section of Adidome Town Council. The Vume Traditional Area comprised of communities
surrounding Kpogadzi.
One major traditional festival in the District is the Mafi Hogbetsotso which is celebrated annually by the Mafi Traditional Council. With reference to the Ghana Statistical Service of 2010 PHC, the total population of the District is 59,411.
