The Leadership of Convention People’s Party as at the close of nomination by the Electoral Commission of Ghana on Friday, 9th October, 2020, had managed to assist 47 aspirants to successfully file their nomination as Parliamentary Candidates out of the 275 constituencies for the Party to contest the December 2020 polls.
Out of the 47 nomination forms filed, the CPP is determined to get at least 5 seats in the next Parliament to enhance its electoral fortunes. According to the party leadership, the operation one million votes is still on course as the Party prepares to launch its campaign ahead of the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The Flagberer Ivor Kobina Greenstreet and running mate Prof. Emmanuel Bobobee earlier filed their nomination as Presidential candidates on Thursday, 8th October, 2020.
Although the Party had intended to field other aspirants, there were several constraints. These included lack of adequate financial support, difficulty in securing tax clearance certificates and even challenges for some aspirants to download the EC nomination form from the online portal due to internet connectivity.
Notwithstanding these challenges the National Chairperson and Leader Nana Akosua Frimponmaa Sarpong Kumankuma whose determination and support had helped over 30 of the aspirants, challenged members of the Party to be resilient and fight on to work for the good of the Party. She invited all well meaning members to rally behind the new leadership. Her team had had only one month to source for funding and prepare for the 2020 General Elections.
