The Ghana Education Service together with the Ministry of Education has outlined a detailed framework for the reopening of Pre-tertiary and Tertiary institutions for the 2021 academic year.

The Director General of the Ghana Education Service Prof. Kwesi Opoku-Amankwa, following Preaident Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s directive to reopen schools has addressed the press where he put out the entire guidelines and framework regarding reopening of schools in the Covid-19 pandemic era.

The guidelines include reopening dates of schools, 2021 Academic calendar, WASSCE, BECE timetables and vacation.

Private schools require urgent assistance from government to ensure resumption of academic works

According to the Director General of Ghana Education Service, Kindergarten (KG) to Junior High Schools (JHS) are to reopen on Monday, 18th January, 2021

Senior High Schools (SHS) forms three (3) and second (2nd) year Gold Track students to resume on Friday 15th January, 2021.

First (1st) year students together with second (2nd) year Gold Track batch to report on Wednesday 10th March, 2021.

Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Education and Ghana Health Service to commence disinfection in all schools before reopening.

Speaking at a press briefing, the Director General of GES said, they shall ensures mapping of schools to health facility across the country.

In March 16, 2020 Preaident Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed the closure of schools due to COVID-19 pandemic. The initial directive allowed for final year students of both JHS and SHS to remain in school to continue with
their examinations.

Education Minister hands over 120 buses to Senior High Schools

When the West African Examination Council (WAEC) suspended the conduct of exams, the final year students of both JHS and SHS were also directed to go home.

In June 15, 2020, gradual reopening of schools for final year students to return to face-to-face instructions and to sit for their terminal examinations while observing health protocols.

GES releases new procedures for inter regional transfer of teachers

In October 5, 2020, JHS 2 and SHS 2 students return to school to complete the 2019/2020 academic year. It was further directed that all KG, primary, JHS 1 and SHS 1 students will return to school in
January 2021 to begin the next academic year.
