In accordance with Article 10; clause (3), (4), (5) of the Constitution and the Rules of GNAT as amended in 2018, local conferences would be organized to elect local executive.
On the Contrary, Adidome-Local of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), on Tuesday 2nd March, 2021 had its Local conference in sobriety. The local Conference which is mandated under the laws of the Union was primarily for officers to account to members, make resolutions for the next two years, and ultimately select new leaders to steer the affairs of the Union at the Local level for the next two years.
The event which was held under the Chairmanship of Mr. Dusu Selorm Junior, was held at the Adidome Senior High School Assembly Hall, and was graced by representatives from basic schools in the circuit and one Senior High School in the Local, Executives of sister locals, Executives of the District, and other distinguished observers.
The National President of GNAT, Mad. Phillipa Larsen pulled a surprise at the event, as she took time to address various concerns raised by members present.
1. Transfer of teachers
2. Professional development allowance
3. Legacy arrears
4. Attack on teachers
5. Covid-19 and risk allowance
6. Support to teachers in deprived areas
7. Responsibility allowance.
Amongst other things, she urged teachers to continue discharging their professional duties effectively and diligently. Also, she added that, the professional allowance, which is meant to be paid to teachers yearly, and subjected to yearly review of the amount, will be paid to teachers before the year ends. Finally, she put the following before the delegates:
1. Rejuvenation of the basic unit.
2. Minimum wage for 2021 is yet to be finalized.
3. GNAT bought Sweden medical centre for treatment of Cancer.
4. Ghana Education Service will soon distribute laptops for teachers.
5. Reduction of interest on teachers fund loan.
6. Ghana provident fund (TEIR 3).
7. GNAT @90 this year.
8. GNAT polo t-shirt will be distributed to all teachers.
9. GNAT print collective agreement for distribution.
Moreover, the outgoing local GNAT chairman (Mr. Dusu) gave a short report on his stewardship and some resolution for the year 2021.
In a statement issued by the leadership of the Adidome Local GNAT signed by Stanley Jnr. Agbozo (Adidome Local Secretary) and Prosper Amevor (Adidome Local Chairman) said, in the end, the following constituted the new leadership of the Adidome Local – GNAT, as announced by GNATEC, the body mandated to organize the elections:

The National President swore the officers into office, and charged them to deliver in the best interest of the members, and the Union at large.
In a short acceptance speech, the Local Chairman – Elect, Mr. Prosper Amevor voiced his appreciation to the delegates for the confidence reposed in him to lead the Union, at the local level. He assured the house to deliver better than the previous years which was painfully characterized by the deadly pandemic.
