Hon. Woyome supports 2022 BECE candidates with exams materials

Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome has supported 2022 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in South Tongu with examination materials.

The Member of Parliament, on Thursday, 13th October, 2022 made a donation of three thousand (3,000) mathematical sets to the South Tongu District Education Directorate of GES for onward distribution to all 2022 BECE candidates in his constituency.

According to the MP, the mathematical sets distribution covers all the eighty-nine (89) public and private schools in the district.

Mr. Woyome, after handing over the materials to the Education Directorate toured some schools in the District to share his goodwill messages and words of encouragement with BECE candidates and hands over some of the items to the students.

The Lawmaker visited Sokpoe D/A Basic school (Hakpodzi) and Tefle D/A Junior High School where he interacted with the students and distributed the mathematical sets to them.

Mr. Elorm Golo, the District Planning Officer received the materials on behalf of the South Tongu District Education Director Mrs. Celestine S.A Korsi Agordo.

Speaking on behalf of the Director and the Directorate, Mr. Elorm Golo who doubled as the South Tongu District GNAT Chairman expressed their appreciations to the hardworking MP for his continued support in the education sector.

The Directorate is most grateful for the kind gesture of the Member of Parliament Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome for his annual educational supports to BECE candidates.

Mr. Golo believes that, the materials will be of benefits to the candidates in this crucial time.

According to Mr. Golo, the Directorate could not organized common mock for 2021 and 2022 BECE candidates due to financial challenges. He, on behalf of the Directorate, Parents/Guardians and students appealed to the Member of Parliament to go a step further to take the District Common Mock as his additional annual education projects in South Tongu.

He proposed that, the MP conduct a general mock for BECE candidates to make them adequately prepare for the external examination.

Reacting to the request, Mr. Woyome explained that, the proposal has been an issue discussed with management of the Directorate. He explained that, he was briefed that, the Education Directorate should take funding from the District Assembly because, the Ghana Education Service in collaboration with Ministry of Education made plans to borne the cost of BECE mocks including distribution of pamphlets, questions papers etc.

He indicated that, in the absence of government’s plans for the Directorate, he will further engage management of the Education Directorate to ensure their request materialize for all BECE candidates in his beloved constituency, since education is his priority.

Mr. Woyome accepted the request and tasked the Education Directorate to begin more adequate preparations towards the common mock examination request for next year.

Speaking to Coverghana.com.gh, the exams coordinator of South Tongu District Education Directorate Mr. Sampson Obed Mensah explained that, a total of 2,208 candidates comprising 1,126 males and 1,082 females are expected to sit for the 2022 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) across across 11 examination centres in the District.

He further explained that, the 2,208 BECE candidates are from 89 Junior High Schools comprising 68 public schools and 21 private schools.

Mr. Sampson Obed Mensah is hopeful that, the outcome of this year’s BECE examination will improve as compared to last year’s statistics.

The Member of Parliament also instituted annual educational support to students as a way of improving academic performances in the South Tongu District and to lessen the financial burden and struggle most students pass through to get registered for the BECE.

The able office of the MP has been paying for the cost of BECE Candidates’ passport pictures as required by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) for registration since he [Kobena Mensah Woyome] was elected as MP for South Tongu.

The MP will also borne the cost of common mock examination for all BECE candidates in South Tongu.

Staff of the Education Directorate, Teachers, Parents/Guardians and Students are much grateful to the MP for his educational supports.
