A total of three (3) New Patriotic Party Members of Parliament may be facing a By-Election due to their absenteeism in Parliament. Coverghana.com.gh has gathered.

In disclosing the matter, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for the North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region has indicated that, there would be 3 by-elections and not 1 as some people have stated.

The North Tongu Legislature indicated that, he is perplexed and wondering the basis for the discriminatory and unprincipled attacks on the Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament.

Mr. Ablakwa also added that, between October 26, 2021 and November 24, 2021, two NPP MPs were absent without permission from the Rt. Honourable Speaker.

According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, from a thorough and unimpeachable assessment of the Votes and Proceedings of Parliament — between October 26, 2021 and November 24, 2021; two NPP MPs were absent without permission from the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Alban S.K. Bagbin, for 18 working days each.

The North Tongu MP said, he is therefore perplexed and wondering, in all sincerity, the basis for the discriminatory and unprincipled attacks on Sarah Adwoa Safo by our colleagues on the NPP side of the House, and particularly from Ken Ohene Agyapong who is equally guilty of the same offence he’s been raving and ranting about” he indicated.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa further indicated that, the votes and proceedings confirming the absentee status of the offending 3 NPP MPs remain intact and well-secured.

The list of MPs disclosed by Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa that are likely to face By-Election are;

1. Hon. Sara Adwoa Safo, Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency cum Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

2. Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Assin Central Member of Parliament.

3. Henry Quartey, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central Constituency who doubled as the Greater Accra Regional Minister.

 

According to the MP, they have all absent themselves from Parliament without permission from the Speaker of Parliament.
