SAD NEWS: Over 30 people fear dead in a capsized boat on the Volta lake

News coming in has confirmed that, over thirty (30) people fear dead in a capsized boat moving from Dzemeni to Havorkope in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District of the Eastern Region.
According to reports picked by Coverghana.com.gh from the Havorkope, the boat capsized on its way at Todzie while moving from Dzemeni to Havorkope yesterday.

The sadden incident happened on Thursday, 14th April, 2022 between the hours of 4pm to 5pm after meeting wind storm with heavy rain on the way.
According to the Assemblyman for the Area Mr. Gershon Akorlie, three boats from the Havorkope set off from Dzemeni around 2pm in the afternoon. Two of the boats arrived safely but one did not come. Upon further interrogation, they realized that, the third boat capsized in the middle of the river.
Mr. Gershon Akorlie told Coverghana.com.gh that, the rescue team got to the scene around 8pm – 9pm in the night where some of the people on board were saved.
Explaining further, he said, they cannot tell the total number of people in the boat but at the moment, eight (8) females, and four (4) males were found alive.
Meanwhile, the rescue team was able to found a total of seven (7) dead bodies who are all females.
He added that, some of the people on board were able to swim ashore, while the rest cannot be found. The rescue team, according to him is still looking for some of the dead bodies in the river.
Mr. Gershon Akorlie said, he officially reported the incident to the Ghana Police Service where the seven bodies found have been deposited at the mortuary in Asikuma.
He noted that, since the incident happened, no government officials including National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) have reach out to support.

The residence of the area are appealing to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and the general public to come to their aid.
