SAD VIDEO: How tidal waves rendered over 3,000 residents of Keta homeless

Trending videos intercepted by has shown the sad incident of how tidal waves destroyed properties of over 3,000 residents of Keta-Kedzikorpe and its environs and rendered them homeless.

On Sunday, 7th November, 2021, residents of the Keta Municipality were affected by the Ketu South tidal wave. The incident has displaced thousands of the people in the area.

Reports picked confirmed that, livestock, farmlands, buildings among others were also destroyed, making the people homeless. The people have no place to sleep and no food to cook. Some of them sleep by the road, under trees and publish places.

The residents are currently living in fear and panic and are appealing to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government to address the situation in time to prevent greater havoc.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Volta Regional Caucus of the minority in Parliament who doubles as the Ho West MP Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah together with Hon Dzidzorli Gakpe, the MP for Keta and Hon Dzifa Gomashie, the MP for Ketu South have visited the areas affected by the Ketu South tidal wave and the displaced families who were directly affected by the tidal wave.

They visited the place after some homes along the Aflao-Keta-Anloga highway including Kedzikorpe, Nukpesekorpe and Tetekorpe got washed away by the sea making residents homeless.

Available reports confirmed that, Keta for the past decades has suffered from activity of high tidal waves, which destroyed physical structures, lives and other properties.

Addressing the media, Hon. Bedzrah used the opportunity to call on President Akufo-Addo’s government to expand the Keta Sea Defence Project to control the release of this periodic floodwaters from the mainlands into the Atlantic Ocean to protect lives and properties and to avert the increasing land lost.

He explained that, the Keta Sea Defence Project (KSDP) which was started during the NDC government to control the release of periodic flood waters from the areas surrounding the Keta Lagoon has stalled for some years now since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government comes to power.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Keta Municipal Hon. Kwame Gakpey Dzidzorli said, they  are accessing the situation to find a temporary accomodations for the affected victims. He also appealed to the Ruling New Patriotic Party government to find a lasting solution to this problem.

The District and Regional National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) were present to take stock of the affected residents and communities.
