The Ghana Police Service Administration has declared strategic points near the inauguration venue, inner security zones, closure and diversion of major roads before, during and after the swearing-in ceremony for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, his Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Members of Parliament elect.

According to the Ghana Police Service, for the purposes of security, safe and smooth vehicular movement for the inauguration on 7th January, 2021; the Police Administration and partners have taken certain measures including closure and diversion of some roads leading to the State House Complex in Accra and the vicinity of the inauguration venue.

In a notice issued by Superintendent of Police, Director Public Affairs, Sheilla Kessie Abayie-Buckman (Mrs.) the geographical areas around Ako Adjei Interchange through Ridge Koundabout (Arican Unity Circle), Acera Intermational Conference Centre, Independence (Black Star) Square, Acera Sports Stadium, Osu Cemetry Traffic Light and Gamel Abdul Nasser Avenue are considered inner security perimeter for the purpose of
the event.

It further said, roads in the inner perimeter would therefore be closed to both human and vehicular movement from 0400 hours to 1800 hours on Thursday, 7th January 2021. Specific description of the roads and landmarks of the inner perimeter from the direction of the Kotoka International Airport to the State House, which would be closed to the public are;

1. From the Ako Adjei Interchange on the Independence Avenue towards the Ridge Roundabout.

2. From Osu on the Lokko Road towards the Starlets 91 Road or Castle Road to Ridge Roundabout. i.e. From Osu Cemetery Traftic Light towards Accra Sports Stadium Ministries – Independence Square and also towards Castle Road to Ridge Roundabout.

3. From the Gamel Abdul Nasser Avenue towards Castle Road, Ridge Roundabout or Haile Sellasie Street; 1.e. from the British High Commission to the State House
or Ridge Roundabout through the road in front of the Intermational Press Centre or Ghana Institute of Journalism.

Also, other roads close to the inner perimeter, such as on the Liberation Road, from the intersection close to Opeibea House and Silver Star Towers Complex through 37 Military Hospital to Ako Adjei Interchange on the Liberation Road may also be closed at certaim times of the same day.

Vehicles of VVIP’s expected at the event have been issued with passes to enable them drive through the road blocks to the State House. Vehicles of all dignitaries with invitation cards or role players with accreditation would also be allowed entry through road blocks to their assigned parking venues.

The individuals isued with accreditation tags may also walk through the road blocks, all vehicles and persons accessing the road blocks would be screened by security personnel.

Due to the road closure, traffic from Tetteh Quarshie interchange on the Liberation Road to the Accra Central Business District, Ring Road or Nkrumah Circle would be diverted at the intersection close to Opeibea House/ Silver Star Towers
Complex to the right on Caseley Hayford Road to Join the Olusegun Obasanjo Highway and the Kanda Road. Commuters from Accra Business District heading towards Acera International Conference Centre, Independence Avenue to Ako Adjei Interchange, Abdul Diout Koad, King Hassan Road, EFSnoussi Street to Liberation Road, will be routed to the third exit at the Ridge Roundabout on the Castle Road towards Ridge Hospital to join other routes to their destination. Similarly, commuters on the 28th February Road towards Starlets 91 Road are encouraged to use the Liberia Road in front of the GRA Customs Headquarters to join other routes to their destinations.

Where the parking area for an invited guest has not been stated, the guest should drive to the Independence Square, which has been assigned as the official parking space for the event. From there, invited guests and dignitaries will be chauffeured to and from the State House in assigned shuttle busses. Any vehicle parked at an unauthornized place would be towed away and the owner prosecuted.

Security personnel including Traffic Police Officers would be stationed at vantage points to assist commuters and direct drivers to assigned parking lots.

Residents of the inner security perimeter, dignitaries invited to the event, motorist, pedestrians and the general public are entreated to co-operate and observe the security measures for the inaugural ceremonies of 7th January, 2021 in support of the constitutional framework of governance.
